2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Most updates found on the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Sport are centered on improvements to the audio and navigation systems. On the exterior, changes were trivial and include updates to the grill and headlamp trim and small refinements to the badging. The most prominent exterior change is the addition of a power open/close tailgate.

2012 Range Rover Sport Trims & Engines

As was the case for 2011, the Range Rover Sport is available as the HSE, HSE LUX (HSE with Luxury Package), Supercharged, and the Autobiography. Engine availability has also been carried over from 2011. The standard engine is the 375-horsepower 5.0-liter LR-V8 that features direct fuel injection and torque-activated variable camshaft timing. This engine meets ultra-low emissions vehicle (ULEV2) standards while at the same time powering the Range Rover Sport from zero-to-60 MPH in just 7.2 seconds. The Supercharged and Autobiography trims enjoy a 510-horsepower supercharged version of the LR-V8, and propels the Range Rover Sport from zero-to-60 in just under six seconds. Both engines are backed by a six-speed adaptive automatic transmission with CommandShift®, which features normal, sport, and manual shift modes.

2012 Range Rover Sport Interior Updates

The real changes to the 2012 Range Rover Sport are all inside.

Navigation – A hard drive navigation system with a 7-inch color touchscreen display features updated informational graphics for improved usability. This navigation system is standard on all models. The navigation display is capable of receiving Traffic Message Channel information, which sends updated traffic data to the Range Rover Sport’s navigation system. Additionally, the navigation touchscreen can also display 4×4 and off-road navigation information.

Audio – The standard audio system is a 380-watt harman/kardon® system with 11 speakers. This is up from the 2011 system, which was rated at 240 watts and featured nine speakers. Standard on the Autobiography and optional on the HSE, HSE LUX, and Supercharged is an 825-watt harman/kardon® LOGIC7® 17-speaker system with HD Radio™ and satellite radio. A new virtual CD changer allows 10 full-quality albums to be uploaded to the hard disc drive. The virtual discs can be played as a normal CD. The audio system is also compatible with audio files from an iPod®, iPad®, or USB devices fitted with a standard USB connection.

Additional Updates

Rear Seat Entertainment – An updated rear seat entertainment system offers larger 8-inch screens and two sets of wireless WhiteFire™ headphones. This system is available on all trims except the HSE.

Voice Activation – “Say What You See” voice activation technology allows the user to control a variety of systems with the aid of step-by-step instructions displayed on the touchscreen.

Driver’s Information Display – A thin film transistor driver information screen within the instrument cluster can display audio information, phone book entries, and navigational aids. The phone book now stores several thousand entries, up from 700 entries on the 2011 model.

Smaller Smart Key Fob – A new compact Smart Key fob is smaller and includes lock, unlock, tailgate release, and panic alarm functions.

Steering Column Control Stalks – The control stalks on the steering column have been revised for a more upscale appearance and improved ease-of-use.

Optional Headliner – An Ebony Morzine headliner is now optional.

Five new body colors, a new alloy wheel design, two new interior color options, and a carbon veneer package make up the bulk of the changes.
