2011 Land Rover LR4 Passenger View Off-Road

Last month, MSN UK Cars conducted a poll that asked 39,663 readers to vote for their favorite 4×4 vehicle. The actual question asked was, “Which firm makes the best ‘4×4’ type cars?” Respondents were given a list of 12 manufacturers, including Land Rover, Toyota, Audi, BMW, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Volkswagen, and Volvo. Out of the 12, Land Rover came in on top.

The UK is Land Rover’s home market, so we’re not terribly surprised at the outcome. What is surprising is the degree to which Land Rover swept the poll. Out of the nearly 40,000 responses, Land Rover garnered 54 percent of the vote, dwarfing all other options that were presented. Second and third place belonged to Toyota with 9 percent of the vote and Audi with 8 percent of the vote. BMW scored 6 percent, and all other manufacturers came in at 5 percent or less.

“We know that Land Rover has some of the best brand loyalty figures in the industry and this poll is testament to that. Taking over half the votes is a great achievement and goes to prove that Land Rover really does make the world’s most authentic 4x4s. Thank you to everyone who voted for us,” said Colin Green, managing director of Land Rover UK.

The UK’s current Land Rover lineup includes the Freelander 2 (LR2), Discovery 4 (LR4 pictured), Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Defender, and within weeks the Range Rover Evoque will be hitting the roads. The Defender is scheduled to be replaced by an updated vehicle in 2015.
