300,000th Land Rover Freelander 2

First it was the 1,000,00th Discovery, now it’s the 300,000th Land Rover Freelander 2 (LR2). You remember the LR2, don’t you? It’s the little Land Rover that has been soldiering on despite living in the significant shadow of the larger Land Rover LR4 and the Range Rover trinity. The Freelander 2 has been in production at the Halewood Operations facility since October of 2006 and it was at this facility where Land Rover celebrated the milestone.

The 300,000th Freelander 2 is a 2.2-liter diesel wearing Barolo Black (a new color for 2012) and is heading to Brazil. The destination is fitting considering the brand’s popularity in Brazil. Land Rover stated that it enjoys a 40 percent marketshare in the SUV market within the South American country.

About the 2012 Land Rover LR2

Land Rover’s 2012 LR2 is a nearly direct carryover from the 2011 model year. With the exception of a couple of special editions, Land Rover hasn’t even bothered releasing new photos for the 2012 model. MSRPs also mirror the 2011 model with the 2012 Land Rover LR2 (Base) starting at $36,550.00. The introductory MSRP jumps to $39,000.00 and  $41,500.00 for the HSE and HSE LUX, respectively. A fully loaded 2012 Land Rover LR2 HSE LUX will set you back $46,500.00 before taxes, fees, etc.  This includes an optional color ($950.00), Grand Black Lacquer interior finishing ($200.00), optional 19-inch wheels ($1,250.00), DVD navigation ($1,900.00), and the Climate Comfort Package ($750.00). For comparison, the 2012 Range Rover Evoque Pure starts at just under $44,000.00.

2012 Land Rover LR2LR2 Powertrain (U.S.)

Despite which LR2 trim you opt for, it will be  equipped with a 230-horsepower 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine. Backing this engine is a six-speed automatic transmission with Land Rover’s CommandShift® (clutchless manual shifting). There are no optional powertrains available for the LR2 in the U.S. market.

2012 LR2 Color Choices

Perhaps the most significant change from 2011 comes in the form of revised color options. Color choices for the 2012 LR2 include Fuji White, Baltic Blue, Barolo Black ($950.00), Firenze Red ($950.00), Galway Green ($950.00), Havana ($950.00), Indus Silver, Ipanema Sand, Orkney Grey, and Santorini Black ($475.00). Land Rover’s Drive the Extraordinary Sales Event

Land Rover doesn't run many national sales events, so when the Drive the Extraordinary push was announced we suspected there was something good on the way. That something good happened to be a purchase incentive on the all-new 2012 Range Rover Evoque. Land Rover is now offering the Evoque with financing incentives that start at 1.9 percent for qualified buyers.
