Journey of Discovery Leaving Moscow

Over the past several weeks, the Journey of Discovery team has visited the Geneva Motor Show, where the 1,000,000th Discovery was displayed alongside the Range Rover Evoque Convertible concept; Italy, where the team learned about avalanche control; Austria, where the drivers brushed up on their snow and ice driving techniques; the Ukraine, where the expedition visited a the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and a former submarine base; and Russia, where they found an interesting Soviet car collection owned by a former Moskvich test and rally car driver.

Track Land Rover’s Journey

As of this week, the Journey of Discovery expedition has left Russia after its last official Russian stop in Astrakhan and is now heading through Kazakhstan toward Uzbekistan. Land Rover has also released a new tracking feature via Google Maps that allows you to track the expedition as it moves toward its goal of Beijing.  The tracking map is loaded more than just the route. You can see team Tweets, get blog-like updates on notable events and locations, watch video, and see photos.

An Expedition for a Good Cause

The Journey of Discovery is an 8,000-mile expedition that will visit over a dozen countries on its 50-day trip from Birmingham to Beijing. Along the way, the expedition is visiting a variety of historical sites, picturesque (and challenging) landscapes, small villages, and major cities. The journey is being undertaken by Land Rover to celebrate the production of the 1,000,000th Discovery, but also aims to raise $1.6 million for a water sanitation project in Uganda. The water sanitation project is being administered by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), one of Land Rover’s Global Humanitarian and Conservation Partners.
