2012 Range Rover Evoque Coupe in Colima Green

Autoweek is the latest publication to recognize the 2012 Range Rover Evoque by naming it the “Best of the Best/Truck” for 2012. This puts the Evoque’s award tally somewhere in the mid-50s (we’re starting to lose count). This is the second year for the award and represents “two vehicles that [Autoweek editors] feel are No. 1 from [their] shared point of view as automotive enthusiasts.” The winner of the “Best of the Best/Car” was the Audi A7. The Autoweek Best of the Best awards will be officially presented at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, a show which Jaguar Land Rover has opted to skip in favor of Delhi

Award Criteria

“The Range Rover Evoque retains the luxury, refinement, and off-road capability we’ve come to expect from Land Rover…”

Eligible vehicles were new or substantially re-worked for the 2012 model year and were required to be available to the general public as of December 31st, 2011. The truck category included pickup trucks, crossovers, minivans, and sport utility vehicles; a routine practice these days as body styles blur from one to the next. Eligible vehicles contending for the “Best of the Best” title were scored points based on drivetrain, ride quality, handling, exterior design, interior design, and what Autoweek describe as “fun factor.” The vehicles with the most points were named the winners.

“The Range Rover Evoque retains the luxury, refinement, and off-road capability we’ve come to expect from Land Rover, combined with compact dimensions, carlike ride, and efficiency that redefine the brand,” said Wes Raynal, Autoweek Editor. “We love Range Rovers for their on-road manners as much as for their off-road prowess, and the Evoque carries on that tradition. Despite its diminutive size and four-cylinder powerplant, the Evoque is as much a Range Rover as any of its bigger brothers.”

Runners up in the “Best of the Best/Truck” category were the Mercedes-Benz ML350 and the BMW X3. You can click here to read our side-by-side comparison of the Range Rover Evoque Pure and the BMW X3 xDrive28i.
