September 2011 U.S. Land Rover Sales

Land Rover continues its upward run in the U.S. market by posting another consecutive month of positive sales. Despite a lagging economy and a woefully uncertain job market — an environment that has fostered economic protests across the country — Land Rover continues to gain ground. Even Jaguar, which has suffered a bit as of late, saw an increase in September.

Land Rover September Sales

Only two Land Rover models were highlighted in the most recent press release from Jaguar Land Rover. The first is the current volume leader, the Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover Sport found 1,232 new buyers in September. This is an impressive 37 percent increase over 2010, when the Range Rover Sport tallied up just 897 sales. The second big mover of the month was the LR4. The LR4 is up 20 percent over last year with 534 units finding new homes (up from 446 in September 2010).

Total sales for Land Rover came in at 2,740 units, up 10 percent from 2,489 units in September 2010. This means that between the two, the Range Rover and the LR2 found just 611 buyers between them. From the sales history, it’s safe to speculate that the Range Rover made up the bulk of those sales with the LR2 lagging its larger siblings.

For the year, Land Rover sales are at 25,650 units, up 15 percent over 2010.

Jaguar Land Rover U.S. September Sales

For its part, Jaguar sales were up 15 percent over last year at 1,111 units (vs. 967 in September 2010). Together, Jaguar Land Rover North America is up 9 percent with a total of 34,965 units sold.

Future Sales

Next month’s sales report is going to be very interesting, as it will be the first month to include data on the all-new 2012 Range Rover Evoque. The premium compact SUV went on sale Monday, October 3rd, and if pre-orders are any indicator, is expected to lead Land Rover sales for some time to come.

Jaguar Land Rover also continues to boost efforts in important emerging markets such as India and China. JLR’s plans call for doubling sales in India and continued development of the Chinese market.
