Land Rover has released photos and details on the 2012 Defender. Highlights include a new diesel engine, five new individual option packages, new gloss black "Saw Tooth" alloy wheels, and a new plain black hood option for pickup truck models. Three of the options packages bolster interior comfort and convenience with two additional options added for exterior appearance and off-road performance.

The Royal Automobile Club (RAC) Future Car Challenge has announced Land Rover will enter three Range_e diesel hybrid vehicles in the 2011 event. This year's Challenge takes place on Saturday November 5th. The live event uses a 60-mile route and the challenge is to drive from Brighton to London using the least energy possible within the 2 hour 45 minute minimum and 3 hour 30 minute maximum.
Yesterday we passed on the news that the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque took home Auto Express' Car of the Year honors. However, the Range Rover Evoque has to share some of the glory with 2011 Discovery 4. The Discovery 4 took home top honors in the Best Large SUV category for the second year in a row. All told, the Discovery series has appeared on the Auto Express winner's list for seven consecutive years.

The Frankfurt Auto Show will be held September 13th through the 25th, so we're only a few weeks away from the reveal. This is good news for those who feared the recent rumors of the Defender's imminent departure from the Land Rover stable.
