2012 Range Rover Evoque Coupe in Indus Silver

It is no secret that Land Rover offers more options and configurations for vehicles in its home market. In this article, we take a look at 10 things that will not be available to U.S. buyers of the Evoque, at least not for the introductory 2012 model year. A few of the items are not available on a trim-for-trim basis. For example, the Grey Oak interior finisher is available on our five-door, but not on our Coupe as it is in the UK. Other options are just not coming to the U.S. for 2012 on any trim, such as the diesel engines or the manual transmission.

10. Right-Hand Drive

This one doesn’t really count, but we needed a 10th item for our list!

9. A Shot at Winning a Range Rover Evoque Bicycle

Today ends a contest where UK residents can send a photograph to Land Rover for a chance to win one of three prototype Range Rover Evoque bicycles. U.S. residents were not eligible, so the fact that the contest ends on the 15th is largely irrelevant. We took a look at the Evoque bike yesterday if you would like to learn more.

8. Coupe Interior Color Options

The Evoque Coupe Prestige – which comes in at #3 on this list – makes available all the primary interior color options that appear on our five-door Prestige. Primary interior color options for the Coupe Prestige include Vibe (Ebony), Element (Cirrus/Lunar), Ambience (Ivory/Espresso), Spirit (Tan/Ivory/Espresso), and Couture (Ivory/Dark Cherry). Interior finishers include Grey Oak (wood), Figured Macassar (wood), Satin Brushed Aluminum, and Botanical. Headliners are Ivory or Ebony.

Your choices are more limited if you opt for the U.S. version of the Coupe. The Coupe Dynamic has available Ebony, Ebony/Pimento, Lunar/Ivory, and Lunar/Savannah; no optional interior finishers; and the two headliners already mentioned. The Evoque Coupe Pure features Almond/Espresso, Ebony, and Cirrus/Lunar primary interior colors. In short, if U.S. buyers want access to the primary interior color options listed for the Coupe Prestige, they must opt for the five-door. Regardless of model, no U.S. version of the Evoque has available the Satin Brushed Aluminum or Botanical finishers.

7. Exterior Color Options

Buyers in the UK get a couple of added color options. Barolo Black is a deep purple-black and Havana is a dark graphite gray. This makes for a total of 12 color options for the UK. Here in the U.S., we are limited to 10 exterior color options. Additionally, the UK has available an increased number of panoramic and solid roof options and colors.

6. Wheel Options

The UK has a wider selection of available wheels. Sample wheel options include the 10-spoke 17-inch “Sparkle Silver” alloy (Style 1), 7-spoke 18-inch “Sparkle Silver” alloy (Style 2), 5-spoke 19-inch “Sparkle Silver” alloy (Style 4), 10 dual-spoke 19-inch “Diamond Turned” alloy (Style 5), 5 dual-spoke 20-inch “Sparkle Silver” alloy (Style 6), a 9-spoke 20-inch “Polished Silver” alloy (Style 8), and others. The smallest wheel available on the Evoque in the U.S. is 19 inches.

5. A La Carte Options

Here in the U.S., we get a few option packages that bundle together many popular features into a single group. In the UK, buyers have major option packs but also many individual add-ons and smaller packages, depending on the trim and model they are ordering. For example, the Evoque Pure in the U.S. has only six option packages listed in its online configuration utility. The UK Evoque Pure has three major option packs, twelve interior options, thirteen exterior options, and seven available infotainment options. UK buyers may have to select other compatible options to get the one they want, but there is more latitude on how they can build their Evoque.

4. Two-Wheel Drive

While we’re not too sure about how a two-wheel drive Evoque would go over in the U.S., the company is offering such in the home market. The two-wheel drive Evoque will not be available until early next year and will come standard with a 150-horsepower 2.2-liter eD4 diesel engine which is backed by a six-speed manual transmission. We are eager to see how successful the two-wheel drive Evoque becomes.

3. Prestige Option for the Coupe

In the U.S., buyers of the Coupe can choose between Pure and Dynamic trims. If you have read anything at all about the Evoque, and we’re sure you have, you’ll be quick to notice that the U.S.-bound Evoque Coupe is missing the Prestige trim. Buyers in the UK will have all three trim levels on both Evoque models. In the U.S., coupes are typically marketed as introductory or sports-oriented vehicles, and that is exactly what Land Rover is doing here with the Pure and the Dynamic.

2. Manual Transmission

The Evoque can be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission on diesel-powered versions of the car in the UK. All three diesel engines including the 150-horsepower eD4, the 150-horsepower TD4, and the 190-horsepower SD4, are available with a manual. The gasoline 240-horsepower 2.0-liter Si4 is available only with a six-speed automatic. We doubt a manual transmission in the Evoque would be popular in the U.S., but there are undoubtedly a few buyers who will pass over the car due due to this omission.

1. Diesel Engines

As mentioned, the UK gets multiple diesel engine options. The two-wheel drive Evoque is standard with a 150-horsepower eD4 backed by a six-speed manual transmission. The other two engine options are the 150-horsepower TD4 and the 190-horsepower SD4, both of which are available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Having diesel powertrains come to the U.S. is at the top of many a wish list made by Land Rover enthusiasts. However, whether or not the market would adopt the diesel is up for debate.

The exterior photo below depicts a 2012 Evoque Coupe in Indus Silver with the 19-inch “Sparkle Silver” alloy wheels in Style 3. The interior photo is the Ambience style as found in the Evoque Coupe Prestige. U.S. buyers get the Indus Silver body color, the Ambience interior as Ivory/Espresso, and the Style 3 “Sparkle Finish” wheels, but we do not get the Prestige trim of the Coupe (or right-hand drive, of course).
