2012 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Coupe

Land Rover has finally revealed the introductory MSRP of both the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Evoque Coupe. The 2012 Range Rover Evoque will have a starting MSRP of $43,995.00 and the Coupe will come in at $44,995.00. Both prices include destination and delivery charges. This pricing scheme puts the Range Rover Evoque between the 2011 LR2 ($36,550.00) and LR4 ($48,500.00) as far as introductory MSRP is concerned, and will open up the Range Rover brand to new buyers, just as Land Rover had intended.

The Evoque, MPG, and Sustainability

The real story behind today’s announcement is that the Range Rover Evoque is Land Rover’s lightest and most fuel efficient Range Rover to date. The Range Rover Evoque manages 19 MPG city and 28 MPG highway (EPA rated), which is a result of the Range Rover Evoque’s use of lightweight materials and efficient technologies. Land Rover states that weight saving was a primary objective when developing the Range Rover Evoque. It is well-known that Land Rover vehicles tend to be on the heavy side, with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport coming in at 5,697 lbs. and 5,540 lbs., respectively. In comparison, the five-door Range Rover Evoque tips the scales at a mere 3,680 lbs. Of course, the Range Rover Evoque is much smaller than either of its Range Rover siblings. It is, in fact, even shorter than the LR2 by about six inches (and to put it even further into perspective, shorter than a Ford Focus by about 3.5 inches).

Weight Saving

Land Rover engineers reduced the weight of the Range Rover Evoque by incorporating a number of weight-saving techniques and technologies. Key load-bearing areas of the body structure feature 18% Boron/high strength steels, the front fenders and tailgate feature polymer and composite construction, the hood, roof panels, front lower control arms and front/rear suspension knuckles are made of aluminum, and the cross car beam is magnesium.

Recycled Materials

Each vehicle also makes use of approximately 35 lbs. of recycled plastics. Parts with recycled material include the headliner, center console, wheel arch liners, air cleaner, cooling fan and shroud, air ducting, side under trays, parcel shelf, engine cover, and the subwoofer box. Certain pieces of the metal interior trim is produced from recycled aluminum and the trim fabric used on the headlining and pillars contains recycled polyester.

UPDATE 11/30/2011: The Range Rover Evoque was recently awarded VCA Environmental Certification. The certification is the result of a complete analysis of the Evoque’s overall environmental impact.
