2011 Land Rover Discovery 4 Towing

The Land Rover Discovery 4 (known as the LR4 here in the U.S.) has been honored with two notable awards in the UK. The first was via the 2011 Towcar Awards, which named the Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XS winner of the 1,900 kg (4,188 lbs.) category for the second year in a row. The second honor was had via the  British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards.

Towcar Awards

The Towcar Awards are organized jointly by Practical Caravan and What Car? magazine and the Camping and Caravanning Club. The Discovery 4 outperformed competitors such as the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and the Volkswagen Touareg to set a benchmark for towing vehicle performance in its category. Land Rover received its award at a presentation ceremony held at Woburn in Bedfordshire, UK, on June 15th.

Nigel Donnelly, Practical Caravan editor said, “The Land Rover Discovery 4 is a tremendous car to tow with. Its high-speed stability is the equal of any car– line the outfit up on a straight road and you could almost drive it blindfold. If you have the means, the Discovery remains an exceptionally good towcar.”

British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards

The British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards were established in 2004 to not only recognize manufacturers for advancements in vehicle security,  but also to raise consumer awareness about the security of their cars. The awards are based on the New Vehicle Security Ratings (NVSR) system, which ranks vehicles on a five-star scale based on their “theft of” and “theft from” attributes. The awards take into consideration the design features that protect both the vehicle itself and items within the vehicle from theft.

For 2011, the UK insurance industry found the Land Rover Discovery 4 Commercial offers the best standard security package among four-wheel drive vans in the UK new vehicle market. Under the NVSR system, the Discovery 4 was awarded with five stars in the “theft of” category and four stars in the “theft from” category.

Colin Green, managing director of Land Rover UK, said: “These latest awards further confirm the breadth of Discovery 4’s market-leading performance, as judged by independent experts. We are confident that our customers will be even more assured that they are making the right choice thanks to these and the many other honours that the Discovery 4 has received.”
