Range Rover Evoque Special Edition in Beijing

China is well on its way to becoming Land Rover’s largest market, so it was with due respect that the company made a big showing at the 2012 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. The exhibition is also known as the Beijing Motor Show and Auto China, but regardless of what you want to call it, the show’s international influence is undeniable. Lamborghini, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Ferrari, Volkswagen, and many other automakers used the show to display new concepts, models, and technologies.

Land Rover Goes Big

Pretty much everything about Land Rover’s presence in Beijing was big. As readers of RoverGuide, we’re sure you know that Beijing was the destination for Land Rover’s Journey of Discovery. The expedition logged nearly 3,000 miles out of its 10,000 mile journey in China alone. After 50 days of travel, the team managed to roll into Beijing just in time for the auto show to begin. In addition to the Journey of Discovery, Land Rover was also using the Beijing Motor Show as its venue to introduce the Defender Concept 100 (DC100) to Asia. Land Rover is certainly counting on China to be one of the biggest markets for the new Defender come 2015. Other models on display included the 2013 Range Rover Sport Limited Edition and the 2012 Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE Luxury Limited Edition

Range Rover Evoque Special Edition

Only 200 copies of the Range Rover Evoque Special Edition are to be produced worldwide and Chinese buyers get priority.

Not to be outdone by its siblings, the Evoque had a trick up its sleeve for the audience in Beijing. Land Rover revealed an ultra-exclusive 2012 Range Rover Evoque Special Edition and announced it was giving Chinese buyers priority on getting their hands on one. Only 200 will be produced and it has been reported that of those only five will come to the U.S. market. You may also know the Special Edition as the Victoria Beckham edition. Beckham was in Beijing to help Land Rover introduce the car — and its $129,000.00 MSRP — to the world.

On its way to Beijing, the Journey of Discovery visited 13 countries, snapped 17,500 photos, and took 80 hours of video. Here you can see the dust-covered 1,000,000th Discovery, which was the focal point of the 10,000 mile journey.

Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern poses with the Range Rover Evoque Special Edition. We’ll let you guess which one is McGovern (hint: it’s not the gorgeous young lady in the top photo). On an interesting side note, authorities in Beijing issued a “serious reprimand” over scantily clad models at the show. We’re glad to see Land Rover’s models were dressed very elegantly.
