Since its inception in 1970, the flagship of the Land Rover brand has been the Range Rover line. Although much more utilitarian in the beginning, the 2011 Range Rover has evolved into a world-class luxury sport utility vehicle. Introductory MSRPs begin at just under $80,000.00 and climb into six figures with the Range Rover Autobiography. Other trims include the HSE, HSE LUX, and the Supercharged.
All information on this page is for U.S.-specification vehicles unless otherwise indicated.
The 2011 Land Rover Range Rover is available in four trims (and the occasional special edition). The introductory trim is the well-equipped HSE which then moves up to the HSE LUX. Topping out the line are the Supercharged and the Autobiography. Introductory MSRPs range from $79,685.00 (HSE) to $116,950.00 (Autobiography). Like most Land Rover products, there are a limited selection of option packages. Those who enjoy spirited performance will find little to complain about with the Range Rover line, especially when the Supercharged or Autobiography trims are specified. HSE and HSE LUX Range Rovers feature a new Jaguar-derived 5.0-liter V8 that delivers 375-horsepower and 375 ft.-lbs. torque. Backing this engine is a six-speed automatic transmission with CommandShift (clutchless manual shifting through all six speeds). A fully-automatic Sport mode is available for increased torque control. Supercharged and Autobiography trims add a supercharger to the 5.0-liter engine which increases horsepower to an astounding 510. Power on all trims is delivered to a full-time four-wheel drive system that utilized Land Rover’s Terrain Response® system for maximum off-road control.

It may not be a surprise to those who are familiar with Land Rover that the Range Rover is only in it’s third major generation of development. Rather than re-invent the Range Rover over the years, Land Rover has taken an evolutionary approach. The lines of the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover are quite reminiscent of Range Rovers past. With the notable exception of the Range Rover Autobiography, exterior colors found on the Range Rover line are rather subdued, and feature a primarily monochromatic range. Popular colors include Ipanema Sand Metallic, Sumatra Black Metallic, and Fuji White Solid. Autobiography buyers will get a much larger range of color options (for a price — custom colors range from $9,500.00 to $14,500.00). Custom colors include Valloire White Pearl, China Black, Caribbean Blue, ChromaFlair® Spectral Amber, and ChromaFlair® Spectral Blue, among many others.

While the exterior of the Range Rover has stayed very close to its roots, the interior reflects Land Rover’s continued commitment to improving its product line. Land Rover interiors have come a long way over the past few years. The imposing squares and rectangles that made up the interior lines have been mostly absorbed by a much more fluid interior design that features more intricacy and curves. The dash panel and center stack has been improved both aesthetically and functionally. Interior features include leather-trimmed front and rear seats, 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat, heated steering wheel, one-touch operation for all windows, theater-style LED lighting, triple-zone climate control, hard drive navigation system with seven-inch display, and much more.

Although the 2011 Range Rover has not been rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS, the vehicle is equipped with a wide range of active and passive safety equipment. Safety systems include seven airbags (driver, passenger, driver’s knee, side thorax for front seating positions, head-protection for front and rear outboard seating positions), rearview camera, collision-activated inertia switch (unlocks doors, turns off fuel pump, and activates certain lights), power-folding heated exterior mirrors, tire pressure monitoring system, and more.
Safety & Security
All trims of the 2011 Land Rover Range Rover come very well equipped. Features include an automatic rearview camera, heated seats, heated steering wheel, harman/kardon LOGIC7 audio, pushbutton start with keyless entry, virtual instrument panel, and navigation with a seven-inch touchscreen. Every 2011 Range Rover comes with a four-year, 50,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty and 24-hour roadside assistance.
After months of spy videos, photos, and various teaser shots and renderings, Land Rover recently released official photos of the all-new 2013 Range Rover. As you can see from the photos, the new flagship model borrows heavily from the smaller Range Rover Evoque that was released in October of 2011 (in the U.S.).
